Saints Row IV was an entertaining send-up of sci-fi films like Independence Day and The Matrix, and it would be a shame for Nintendo players to have their experience of this game marred by spotty performance. There’s a real possibility that these issues could carry over to Saints Row IV: Re-Elected, but hopefully Deep Silver has learned its lessons porting the previous game to the Switch. The re-release wound up receiving mixed reviews due to its aged gameplay and a number of technical hiccups, the most prominently discussed one being a drastic drop in framerate when the game is played while the console is in its “docked” mode. The Saints Row series had previously debuted on the Switch with last year’s Saints Row The Third: The Full Package edition, an update to the much-lauded 2011 third installment of the series. Furthermore, players who pre-order the physical title at Gamestop will receive a special Saints Row Presidential Pin Badge Set. This includes two bonus campaigns, the “lost episode”-style Enter the Dominatrix and the holiday-themed The Saints Save Christmas, as well as all of the bonus weapons and costumes included in the Dubstep Gun (Remix) Pack, Presidential Pack and Commander-In-Chief Pack. In addition to the game’s main storyline, players will also get a total of 25 pieces of DLC that were previously released on other consoles. The game would continue the Saints Row series’ transition from a somewhat grounded Grand Theft Auto parody to an off-the-rails science fiction adventure, featuring full-blown superpowers, outlandish weapons like a gun that shoots dubstep music at enemies, a “Nolan North” voice option provided by the man himself, and a crazy cast of squadmates that saw the characters from previous games join forces with the likes of Keith David and Rowdy Roddy Piper – as in the actual real-life people, who even spoof their iconic fight scene from They Live! at one point.
Unfortunately, an evil alien army led by the snobbish Overlord Zinyak soon invades Earth, forcing the Saints into action to free humanity from a Matrix-like virtual world and defeat the extraterrestrials controlling it.
